The National Academy of Science and and
Technology (NAST), Philippines will hold its 27th Annual
Scientific Meeting (ASM) at the Manila Hotel on 13-14 July
2005. Revolving around the theme: "Philippine Agriculture
2020: A Strategy for Poverty Alleviation, Food Security,
Global Competitiveness, and Sustainability," the two-day
event will be highlighted by plenary sessions and ceremonies
for the presentation of the different NAST awards.
The theme, as conceptualized by the 27th Annual Scientific
Meeting (ASM) Steering Committee, will focus on the future
of Philippine agriculture that is market-driven, private
sector-led, with the government facilitating the
institutionalization of macro, sectoral/subsectoral
policies, infrastructure development and avenues for
convergence via good governance.
Prepared under the auspices of NAST, with the collaboration
of PCARRD, PCAMRD, DA-BAR, ERDB-DENR and other agencies, a
draft strategic plan for Philippine agriculture will be
presented for analysis, debate and discussion.
The draft plan builds upon the strategic plans of the
concerned government agencies, the GMA Medium Term
Development Plan and validated by a series of stakeholders
consultations over the last few months.
Activities for the two-day event include the opening of
poster sessions and exhibits, seven plenary sessions; and
the awarding ceremonies that will recognize various
outstanding S&T achievements including the investiture of
new academician. Among the awards given annually by NAST
