The TWAS Prize for Young
Scientist in the Philippines is an award given to
outstanding young Filipino scientist by the Academy (NAST)
and the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
One award
each year, consisting of US$2,000 and a plaque , is
given in a selected discipline for the year - biology,
or chemistry, or mathematics, or physics.
For 2002,
the award will be given for Biology. For 2003, 2004,
2005, it will be for chemistry, mathematics, and
physics respectively.
A nominee
must be:
(a) A Filipino citizen;
(b) Not more than 40 years old within the year of the
awarding during the National
Science and Technology Week (2nd week of July);
(c) Of good moral character;
(d) Possessing at least a master of science or Ph.D.
degree;
(e) Author or co-author of a significant number of
original research
and publications; and
(f) Fully qualified for an OYS award.
Criteria for selection include:
(1) Quality and number of scientific works and
publications;
(2) Contributions to the well-being of the Philippine
economy and culture.
