The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with The Outstanding Women in Nation’s Service (TOWNS) Foundation, Inc., will conduct the second installment of the webinar series on Climate Change entitled “Resilient Ecosystems for Sustainable Development in a Changing Climate” on September 17, 2021 via Zoom and Facebook Live.

The webinar series aims to 1) highlight the vulnerability of the Philippine development as climate change interacts with other stressors like the COVID-19 pandemic; 2) identify key strategies to “build back better” from the ruins of the COVID-19 pandemic while simultaneously addressing the impacts of climate variability and extreme events; 3) harness the potentials of science, technology, and innovations (STI) to put the Philippines into the pathways of climate-resilient and sustainable development considering the multiple stressors we face under the new normal; and 4) recommend measures to strengthen policies and governance systems to realize a climate-resilient and sustainable development in the Philippines.

For this webinar, the discussions will revolve around GROWING OUR FORESTS: Enhancing Resilience of Forest Ecosystems for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, SAVING WATER: Sustainable Water Resources Development Under Changing Climate, and Climate-Resilient and BLUE & YOU: Sustainable Development Pathways for the Blue Environment. The distinguished speakers for this webinar are Acd. Rex Victor O. Cruz, Acd. Guillermo Q. Tabios III, Acd. Marie Antonette Juinio-Meñez, Dr. Angela Nina Ann R. Ingle, and Dr. Gay Jane P. Perez. Dr. Laura T. David and Ms. Chiara Zambrano will serve as the rapporteur and moderator of the event, respectively.

The first webinar entitled “Addressing the Challenges of Climate Change on Food and Nutrition Security, and Health” was held on May 21, 2021 via Zoom and Facebook Live. The third and fourth webinars will be held in October and November 2021, respectively.
